Thanks "The Old Northwood Historic District is one of the most beautiful and friendly neighborhoods in West Palm Beach. Historic, charming, an old Florida feel and its proximity to the water and downtown -yet secluded-, make this a special place to visit and live. It is home to 320 characterful homes, built between the 1920s and the 1950s. The community is spread across ten blocks. Each of the properties has its own unique style. However, many took inspiration from themes including Spanish Mission, Mediterranean Revival, 1950s classic ranches, and some spectacular waterfront homes." History and fun facts of our property: "Elbridge Gale a minister, educator and professor of horticulture from the Great Plains Kansas City, had retired in November 1884 and moved with his wife to a property along the Intracoastal Waterway. Soon he had developed a farm growing not wheat or soybeans but mangoes! And given his place an appropriate name: Mangonia. When Gale got to what then was called the region, he was the first on the mainland to build a cabin. It is believed some or all of the original cabin is in the existing structure of the Gale house... (now our house!) At the site, Gale developed what is believed to be the nation’s first fruit-bearing, grafted West Indian mango tree. Today, about 80% of the world’s commercial mangoes trace their roots back to the original variety developed here in Northwood"(...somewhere in our backyard! Isn't that neat?) You can easily walk, bike or ride to most local attractions from the Pineapple deck guest house! … Dining: Local dining opportunities in and around Northwood Village(4 blocks south), downtown West Palm Beach(1.5 miles south) and Palm Beach island, are varied and plentiful.
